At Nationwest Aviation, we’re incredibly fortunate to spend every day flying over some of Western Australia’s most spectacular landscapes. From the vibrant pink hues of Hutt Lagoon to the rugged coastline of Kalbarri and the pristine waters surrounding the Abrolhos Islands, our office has one of the best views in the world.

These incredible places are also the reason we believe it’s important to do our part to help protect them.

Earlier this year, we launched our Carbon Offset Programme, giving guests booking directly through our website the option to offset the carbon emissions from their scenic flight. The idea is simple – for less than the cost of a coffee, passengers can choose to contribute towards planting native trees and restoring Australian landscapes through our partner, Carbon Positive Australia. (Based in Perth, Western Australia)

Unlike many carbon offset programmes that can feel confusing or impersonal, we wanted ours to be transparent. We calculated the carbon footprint of each of our scenic flights based on actual aircraft fuel consumption and flight time, allowing customers to make an informed choice about offsetting their journey.

We’re excited to share that our first carbon offset booking took flight in February 2026, marking the beginning of what we hope will become an important part of our business.

Since then, many of our guests have chosen to add a carbon offset to their booking, and in June 2026 we made our first donation of $154.54 to Carbon Positive Australia. This contribution represents the combined carbon offset purchases from flights that operated between February and May 2026.

While $154.54 might seem like a modest figure, every journey starts with a first step. We’re incredibly grateful to every passenger who chose to support the programme. Collectively, these small contributions help fund the planting of native trees, restore degraded landscapes and create habitat for Australia’s unique wildlife while removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Why Carbon Positive Australia?

As a Western Australian business, supporting a Western Australian organisation was important to us.

Carbon Positive Australia is a registered environmental charity dedicated to restoring Australia’s landscapes through large-scale native revegetation projects. Their work helps:

• Plant native trees and shrubs.
• Restore degraded farmland and ecosystems.
• Create habitat for native wildlife.
• Improve biodiversity and soil health.
• Remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through long-term carbon sequestration.

Their projects, focussing on regional areas, are creating lasting environmental benefits that future generations will enjoy. Being a company that operates in the regions, this is something we feel gives back to the communities that support us.

Looking Ahead

Choosing to offset your flight is completely optional for customers booking directly with us, but every contribution makes a genuine difference.

For our European travel partners, carbon offsetting is already included in ticket prices to meet new European sustainability reporting requirements, ensuring travellers can enjoy Western Australia while supporting meaningful environmental action.

Our Carbon Offset Programme is still in its early days, and we’re excited to watch it grow. As more guests choose to participate, we’ll continue making regular contributions to Carbon Positive Australia and sharing updates with you along the way.
